Brow Lamination: The Complete Guide to the Technique, the Process and Aftercare
If you feel like your brows get a little unruly in Dubai's humidity – brow lamination is the salon technique of setting your brow hairs in place and it’s just the thing you need. The special solution is used to set even the most unruly brows in place, giving a flat and full look without daily styling. The process uses a perming solution to soften the hair, making it easy to guide a brow hair direction, then a technician brushes it into place, and a fixing solution locks that shape in. The lifted look holds for weeks before it grows out naturally and needs to be reapplied.
Today, we want to break down and explain every step of the process: what happens during appointment, what steps you need to take for the effect on your brows to held up longer, how long the results last and, of course, whether this treatment will work for you.
What Is Brow Lamination?
Brow lamination is a semi-permanent treatment that takes the brow hair you already have and sets it into smooth, lifted brows for several weeks. First comes a perming solution, which softens the hair enough to reposition it. Then, a technician brushes each strand into place, making sure the hairs follow your natural growth pattern. Next, the fixing solution is applied – it locks the new shape in. To make your brows feel comfortable and soft, a nourishing serum is applied at the very end, making the brows feel flexible, removing the stiffness of the fixing solution. The brow lift (lamination) usually can last for 6 to 8 weeks before the effect fades, as new hair grows in.
Brow lamination is often confused with other brow procedures like microblading and tinting. But, in fact, these procedures couldn’t be further from each other. So, what is brow lamination, compared to microblading and tinting?
Microblading is a permanent tattoo, made to create a natural look of the brow. It deposits pigment into the skin in extremely thin strokes that imitate the hairs, creating a shaped, full look. Tinting is semi-permanent and only changes the color of your hair strands and can potentially tint the skin underneath the brows, but the effect isn’t permanent. Lamination does neither. It reshapes the hair you already have, but does not add anything to your skin or hair follicles. In these terms, it’s a low-commitment way to try to gain a fuller brow shape. If it's not right for you, the look grows out on its own within a few weeks, no correction appointment needed.

How Brow Lamination Works: Step by Step
Here's what the brow lamination process looks like from start to finish, broken into the steps a technician follows during a typical session.
Consultation and brow mapping. Your technician gives a good look to your natural eyebrows, the hair’s growth pattern, hair thickness and skin oiliness. Then you can discuss your goals and with all that knowledge, the mapping starts, to determine the lifting direction that will look most natural on your face shape.- Cleansing. The technician will remove all makeup, oils, dust – anything that’s on your eyebrows, so the solutions can work evenly from root to tip.
- Perming solution. To make the brows easier to shape, the softening solution gets applied for around 5 to 10 minutes, to make the hairs loose up a little and allowing the hairs to be reshaped and combed through easily.
- Brow combing. While the hair is pliable, the technician combs each strand into the desired direction with a brow brush and holds it there.
- Fixing (neutralizing) solution. A second solution locks the new shape in, so hair holds its position once it dries.
- Nourishing oil. The same finishing step described earlier: a conditioning oil (or serum) is applied, leaving brows soft instead of stiff.
Brow tinting can be added on for extra definition. It’s a separate step from the brow lamination itself.
The full appointment usually takes 45 to 60 minutes, but can take a little longer with add-ons. Thicker, unruly brow hairs can also make the appointment longer, as they require special attention from the technician. Product matters less here than timing: a trained eye reading your hair correctly beats whatever's on the shelf. Brows brush into place on their own by the next morning.
How Long Does Brow Lamination Last?
Brow lamination typically lasts 6 weeks, sometimes up to 8 weeks, before the effect fades and hairs return to their natural growth pattern. How long yours does brow lamination last depends on a few factors working together.
Your hair growth cycle plays the biggest role. As new hair grows underneath the laminated strands, the lifted shape gradually softens. Aftercare habits matter a lot, as well: brushing brows daily and keeping up with nourishing oil help the set hold longer.
Exposure to heat or frequently changing temperatures, like when you enter an air conditioned room after a day outside, humidity, chlorine in pool water, ingredients used in some skincare and frequent rubbing can shorten the wear window.
Moisture, chemicals and friction work against the fixing solution over time. Please keep this in mind, when organising your plans in Dubai.
For most clients, the time between appointments lasts around 6 to 8 weeks, at that point, the shape starts to relax and the brows need a refresh. This time period also ensures that your brow hair has time to recover between visits, keeping your brows healthy, without overprocessing the hair after a top-up
Brow Lamination Aftercare
Good brow lamination aftercare in the first two days makes the biggest difference in how long your results hold.
For the first 24 hours:
No water on your brows. The brows need time to set and finish forming.- No makeup around or on the brow. Makeup can disrupt the setting process and rubbing it off with a micellar water afterwards can potentially wash out the solution.
- Don’t touch or brush the hairs. Let them settle into place on their own.
From day two onward:
- Brush brows into place each morning with a clean brow brush or spoolie.
- Apply a nourishing oil or cuticle oil once or twice a day to keep hair soft and easy to style.
- Avoid oil-based products around the brow area – the oils can break down the fixing solution. Better stick with lighter formulas.
- Wear SPF during the day, even on the brow area. Dubai's heat is strong year-round, and sun exposure can fade the look faster than expected.
Sauna, swimming, and hot yoga are best saved for after the first 48 hours, since heat and moisture are exactly what the fixing solution doesn’t like. After that, your brows will be able to handle pool days and workouts just fine.
Who Brow Lamination Is Best For
Brow lamination works especially well for a few specific brow types and lifestyles. It suits you if:
You have unruly brows that grow in different directions, making it hard to style with gel alone.- You want a fuller look without committing to microblading.
- You have asymmetrical brows or downward-growing hair in a few spots.
- You're active and tired of relying on brow makeup or gel every morning before the gym, work, or the beach.
A popular procedure to get before the brow lamination is eyebrow threading, where your eyebrows will be shaped to suit your face. Lash lamination is a similar treatment for lash hair, where your lashes get curled into a position, using a similar solution. It's a very nice way to make your eyes pop for people with straight lashes and some salons pair it with brow lamination for a fuller effect around the eyes. See the brow and lash lamination combo for more.
It's usually best to wait if you have very short or sparse brows, sensitive skin close to the eyes, or a recent chemical service in the area. Your technician needs enough hair length and clear, healthy skin to work with. If you're pregnant or nursing, mention that at your consultation so your technician can advise on timing.
